The Czech Republic is a landlocked country in central Europe, with Poland sharing borders to the north, Germany to the west, Austria to the south and Slovakia to the east. The country has two major historic regions, of Bohemia and Moravia and also part of Silesia. The landscape is quite varied: Bohemia consists of the Elbe and Vltava River basins surrounded by low mountains. Moravia is also quite hilly with river valleys.
The Czech Republic has a mainly a temperate continental climate, with quite hot summers and cold snowy winters. Autumn usually begins in September, which is still relatively warm. With the Czech Republic temperatures vary according to elevation - the higher the colder. The capital and best known city is Prague.
